| Those Silly Girls...Guys
There was a period in the 1980s, where rock bands went over to the other side, so to speak. Guys began wearing make-up, not so much in an attempt to look like girls, but to attract as much attention, although not for the same reasons. It was a gimmick, a schtick that caught on and blossomed with everything from the outrageous black and white faces of KISS to the oh so carefully applied pancake puffs on Motley Crue. But at least one member didn't really need the make-up.
Vince Neil, born in 1961, and tapped as a vocalist for Motley Crue in 1981, had a naturally refined look, and facial bone structure that was...well, intriguing. Add to that, his flowing blonde locks with just the barest hint of waves, and you had the best of both worlds. All male, but looking like a girl, Vince spearheaded the 80s popularity of the group. And the look went with him offstage, as well.
In the late 80s, when Motley Crue was at the height of popularity with their "Girls,Girls" album, Aerosmith's Steven Tyler came across Neil in a bar one night. He might even have been tempted to hit on the blond at the end of the bar himself, until he noticed the other chicks flocking around her. The "her" turned out to be Vince Neil, and the two fell into conversation about, what else, chicks. So taken was Tyler with the super coolness of Neil's attraction, that it would be celebrated in the song "Dude Looks Like a Lady" in Aerosmith's hit 1987 album that put them back on the charts.
