| Whatever Happened To Actor Woody Harrelson?
Actor Woody Harrelson, best known for his
role as Woody on the popular sitcom Cheers, was born in Midland, Texas
in 1961. Harrelson's family later moved to Lebanon, Ohio, where he
spent most of his teen years.
Harrelson attended Hanover College in Indiana
and graduated with degrees in English and Theatre Arts. He started
his career as an understudy in Neil Simon's "Biloxi Blues," but landed
his role on "Cheers" months later.
He found much success on the "Cheers" set
and was honored with the 1989-90 Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor in
a Comedy Series.
Due to a demanding TV schedule, Harrelson
found it difficult to find time to make films. He did make appearances
in the movies Wildcats (1986) and Cool Blue (1988) (V).
But it wasn't until he starred in the 1992
box office smash "White Man Can't Jump" that he established himself as
premier film actor.He followed immediately with two hits, Indecent Proposal
(1993), Natural Born Killers (1994) and The People vs. Larry Flynt (1996),
for which he earned an Oscar nomination.
What has Harrelson been up to since?
He did a few movies such as Wag the Dog
(1999), The Thin Red Line (1998) and EdTV (1999), but none of them were
huge box office draws.
In 2000, Harrelson teamed up with Antonio
Banderas in "Play It to the Bone" as an aspiring boxer who travels to Las
Vegas to find fame and fortune.
Harrelson lives with his former assistant,
Laura Louie, and their two daughters.
Harrelson and his wife are both certified
yoga instructors and opened their own oxygen bar called O2. They
are also busy running their own production company.
Harrelson also moonlights as the lead singer
for two bands: Manly Moondog, and the Three Kool Hats. |
