MC Hammer's real name is Stanley Kirk Burrell
and was born on March 30, 1962 in Oakland, California. He was the
youngest of eight kids and was a son of a poker club manager. His
nickname when he was young was "little hammer;" he got this name because
he was a batboy for the Oakland A's baseball team. From there he
got the name MC Hammer. He wanted to become a baseball player but
failed. MC Hammer had always been a regular church boy. He
actually started a rap duo with the other church boys called, "Holy Choir

With the help of $40,000 from baseball players Mike Davis, and Dwayne Murphy
he made his first single which he sold from his car.
Eventually he became one of the richest
rappers ever, but he did not spend his money wisely. He bought over
15 cars, a $10 million mansion, and had a private jet. He ended up
declaring bankruptcy in 1996, and also had major leg surgery in the same
year, and that is when her realized that he was not focusing on what God
had wanted him to do.
MC Hammer, now almost 40, is a minister.
He leads the Christian Center's Gospel Hip Hop Night which has about 3,500
people. he also hosts a Christian talk show. MC Hammer says
he learned a lot and that he always put his business first and not God
and his family.
He now lives in Northern California, and
still performs music, but his focus is his ministry and his family.
Along with his wife Stephanie, they have four children. He say, "I'm
lucky to be alive, you are seeing a guy who is grateful to God that he
is here." |
