| Whatever Happened To Music Group Kool
& The Gang
You may remember the band "Kool & The
Gang," a hugely successful R&B act from the 70's that had 10 top 10
hits including "Jungle Boogie," "Summer Madness," "Ladies Night," "Joanna,"
"Cherish" and "Fresh." They originally started as an jazz band in the mid-60's,
but settled into their more funky sound in the early 70's. They have
had 10 multi-platinum albums and two Grammy awards, and have sold more
than 70 million albums worldwide.
Although long-time lead singer JT Taylor
left the band in 1999, four of the seven original members continue to perform
around the world and just recently completed a 22-city European tour.
Artists such as Will Smith and Missy Elliott
have incorporated Kool & The Gang's sounds into their own work keeping
their works alive. The group has started experimenting with a new
hip hop sound. The released an album Gangland which contained original
hits such as "Cherish", but with rap, funk and guitar added in.
Kool & The Gang are also working on
an album entitled "Odyssey," which will be released this year. It
will feature a number of guest stars, including Jamiroquai and Bryan Adams
(who is doing a rock version of "Celebration"). |
