Jones?
Almost everyone remembers Grace Jones from
the famous James Bond movie, "A View to A Kill."
Actress/Singer Grace Jones was born on
May 19, 1948 in Spanish Town, Jamaica. Most people do not know it,
but she had a
successful modeling career that started
when she went to Paris in 1964.
Jones has appeared on the covers of popular
magazines such as Vogue and Elle. She also made some popular disco
records in the 1970's that sold quite well based on the strength of her
image and stage show.
On of her hits even made the UK Top in
1980. She also wrote many quality songs that did quite well.
In 1984, Jones started acting and her first
big role was opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in "Conan The Destroyer."
The following year she opposite Roger Moore in the James Bond movie "A
View To A Kill."
She was nominated for Razzie Award in 1988
for Worst Supporting Actress for the movie "Siesta."
She slowly returned back to her singing
career and came out with the hit "Slave To The Rhythm" that went all they
way up to #12 on the UK charts.
But her music career eventually started
fading and she slipped from the public view until the 1992 movie "Boomerang",
which also starred Eddie Murphy.
What has she been up to since?
She has since done a few B movies that
have received poor reviews such as "Blood Moon" (2002) and "Palmer's Pick-Up"
(1999).
She also did a little Broadway work for
the play "The Wiz." She played the Wicked Witch of the West and the
cast toured different areas of the U.S.
Mostly she had been concentrating on her
reviving her musical career and went on a tour of the United Kingdom in
1998 and also recorded a song with dance artist Tricky, which was never
released.
She married her bodyguard Atila Altaunbay
in February 1996, who is about 27 years younger than Jones, and they currently
reside
in New York. |
