| Whatever Happened To Rock Band Def
Leppard
The 1980's popular rock band consisted
of Joe Elliot (vocal), Rick Savage (bass), Phil Collen (guitar), Vivian
Campbell (guitar), and Rick Allen (drums). They were best known for
the songs "Pour Some Sugar On Me." and "Love Bites." The members
are now in their late 30's early 40's but age has not stopped them to come
out with more albums.
The band got together in the late 1970's
and their initial albums were released in the U.K. The album "High
'N' Dry" which came out in 1981 was a big jump for the band. The
album did very well and also helped in sales of their next album in 1983
called "Pyromania." However things did not always go so smoothly
for the band. In 1984, the drummer Rick Allen lost one of his arms
in a car crash. However, even though Allen lost his arm he still
continued to be the drummer for Def Leppard. He got special types
of drums where with his right arm he played a combination of electronic
pads and he used a foot pedal to replace what he would play with his left
arm. Def Leppard eventually came out with another album called "Hysteria."
They sold over 15 million copies worldwide. In 1991, another tragedy
struck. Steve Clark, who was the guitarist, died of a drug overdose.
They replaced him with Vivian Campbell.
The band came out with a greatest hits
CD in 1995 and in 1999 came out with "Euphoria," and both of them doing
very well. The band however now does not top the charts, as many
of the members started to pursue other projects. Phil Collen and
Joe Elliot created a David Bowie cover band, called the Cybernauts and
came out with a double CD. Also recently "The Def Leppard Story"
was released, which is a VH1 movie that basically goes through the history
of the band. |
