| Whatever Happened To Actor Bill Murray?
William James Murray was born on September
21, 1950 in Wilmette, Illinois. Murray was not an easy kid and was
kicked out of both Little League and Boy Scouts.
His deviant behavior resulted in him being
arrested at the age of twenty for attempting to smuggle nine pounds of
marijuana through O'Hare Airport. That pretty much scrapped his plans
to pursue a medical career and he dropped out of med school to pursue a
career in comedy.
Soon after, Murray did various odd jobs
such as making pizzas and hauling concrete before he joined his older brother,
Brian, on the cast of Chicago's famed Second City improvisational comedy
troupe.
In 1975, Murray was recruited by Howard
Cosell as Chevy Chase's replacement on Saturday Night Live. Murray
quickly became famous for his classic characters like Todd the nerd and
Nick the sleazy lounge singer.
Murray got his first movie break in the
1979 smash hit Meatballs. His biggest acting break was in the 1984
smash hit Ghostbusters, which raked in over $230 million to date and propeled
his acting career.
He went on to star in other hits such as
Scrooged, Groundhog Day and What About Bob?, Space Jam and other hit movies.
What has Murray been up to since?
He started doing more serious roles and
won an award from The New York Film Critics Circle for "Best Supporting
Actor" in the 1998 movie "Rushmore."
One of more recent known movies that Murray
did was the movie remake of the television series "Charlie's Angel" in
2000, which grossed over $125 million at the box office.
His last movie was "Lost In Translation",
which was released in early 2003.
Murray hasn't been making too many films
lately and can be found spending a lot of time at golf courses. He
recently played in the Pebble Beach Golf Links during the celebrity shoot
out event of the AT&T Pebble Beach National in February.
Murray currently makes his home in New
York City with wife Jennifer Murray and two sons. |
