| Whatever Happened To Pop Group Banarama?
Most people will remember the British pop
band Bananarama for their biggest hit "Venus." Formed in 1980, after
being discovered by ex-Sex Pistols drummer Steve Cook, Bananarama hit the
charts a dozen top twenty songs from 1982 - 1989. The original band
members were Keren Woodward, Sarah Dallin and Siobhan Fahey. Some
of their biggest hits were "Cruel Summer", "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye
and "Robert De Niro's Waiting."
In 1998, Fahy left the group and married
David Stewart of the band Eurythmics. She was replaced by Jacquie
O'Sullivan, who was an old friend of the band. They continued to
produce hits in the early 90's that made them the most successful British
female pop group in history, but Sullivan eventually departed to pursue
a solo career. Dallin and Woodward continued for the first time as
a duo. The duo's last chart entry was "More, More, More" in spring
1993, and they recorded one another album, Ultra Violet. In 2001,
Dallin and Woodward went on to record a new album, Exotica, which was released
in France. |
