It did not contain cocaine, but they did use part of the coca plant. However, they used a different part of the coca plant. They used the roots and only for the flavor. There was no cocaine in Coca-Cola.

Coca-Cola actually never contained Cocaine. It was named after the Cocoa plant because chocolate had just became popular with the widespread Hershey bar.

A note on the above, actually it did contain cocaine. Cocaine was legal when Coca-Cola was originally produced, and the name comes from the coca leaf, not from cocoa. They stopped putting cocaine in it, but put in caffeine to keep people addicted. Obviously it worked.

Coca Cola actually DID contain a small amount of cocaine initially. It was originally used for medicinal purposes.
